The arcanist channels raw arcane energies. A diverse lot, arcanists can fill any number of roles, from utility casters to healers, depending on their chosen specialty.

Abilities: Intelligence determines how powerful a spell an arcanist can cast. To cast a spell, an arcanist must have an intelligence score of 10 + the spell level.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Arcanists are not proficient with shields or any armor, and an arcanist wearing armor is subject to any arcane spell failure chance. Arcanists are proficient with the club and quarterstaff.

Focus: All arcanists have a focus: Kinesis, Metabolism, or Technomancy. A focus is chosen at level one and can’t be changed. At each even level, the arcanist chooses a focus talent. The spells an arcanist knows are based on their chosen focus.

Kinesis: Arcanists that focus on kinetics train themselves as puppeteers of the natural world. They manipulate arcane energy to infuse objects with motion and create tangible constructs. These arcanists are known as kineticists. Kineticists gain Fly and Perform as class skills.

Arcanists cast arcane spells drawn from the arcanist spell list. They can cast any spell they know without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, an arcanist must have an intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. Like other spellcasters, an arcanist can only cast a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Their base daily spell allotment is given above. In addition, they receive bonus spells if they have a high intelligence score.

The spells an arcanist knows is finite and limited by their chosen focus. An arcanist begins play knowing four 0-level spells, two 1st-level spells from the Arcanist General spell list OR their Focus list, and one 1st level spell chosen only from their specific Focus spell list. At each new arcanist level, they gain one or more new spells, as indicated by the spells known table above. These numbers are fixed and not modified by an arcanists’ intelligence score. An arcanist may spend a feat whenever they’d gain one to instead swap a spell they know for another spell of equal or lower level on their list.

Arcanists do not need to prepare their spells. They can cast any spell they knows at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her spells per day for that spell level. Arcanists may cast any number of zero level spells per day.
